Ariadna will take part in the CIRED 2026 Brussels Workshop with the paper “Data Governance for LV Grid Twins: Lessons from Spain and Portugal”, which will be presented during poster session 1 on 9 June at 14:55.

Ariadna will be attending the CIRED 2026 Brussels Workshop

Ariadna will be taking part in the CIRED 2026 Brussels Workshop, one of the leading European events for the electricity distribution sector. The event will take place in Brussels on 9 and 10 June 2026 and will bring together around 500 industry experts. This year’s edition will focus on the theme “Implementing Successful Innovation in Distribution Networks”, a topic particularly relevant to the current challenges facing distribution networks.

In line with previous participations at CIRED, Ariadna will attend the event to share technical expertise and present its vision on the digitalisation of electricity networks.

Presentation of the paper in the poster session

At this year’s event, Ariadna will present the paper “Data Governance for LV Grid Twins. Lessons from Spain and Portugal” as part of the technical poster session at CIRED 2026.

The paper addresses a key aspect for the evolution of low-voltage grid twins: data governance. The creation of a grid twin does not depend solely on having sensors, smart meters or information systems. Its real value emerges when the data is reliable, traceable, consistent and capable of feeding into grid models that accurately represent operational reality.

Drawing on experiences in Spain and Portugal, the paper analyses practical lessons relating to the construction and operation of low-voltage grid twins, paying particular attention to data quality, the integration of heterogeneous sources and the need to maintain up-to-date models to support network operation and planning.

Data quality as the foundation of the Grid Twin

Low voltage network has become one of the most critical levels in the transformation of distribution networks. It is where new electrical loads, distributed generation, self-consumption, electric vehicle charging and a growing need for operational visibility converge. However, for a grid twin to be useful, it is not enough to digitise assets or represent the network in a model. It is essential to ensure that the data feeding it — topology, phases, smart meter measurements, sensors, events, GIS information and data from corporate systems — is consistent and properly governed.

Proper data governance makes it possible to:

  • improve the accuracy of the grid model;
  • reduce inconsistencies between systems;
  • detect topology errors;
  • increase the reliability of load, voltage and loss analyses;
  • automate grid studies;
  • support planning and investment decisions;
  • improve the day-to-day operation of the low-voltage network.

This approach is directly connected to Ariadna’s value proposition: transforming field data into actionable knowledge so that distribution companies can operate more efficiently, reduce losses, anticipate incidents and improve quality of supply.

From digitisation to governed data

One of the main challenges for distribution companies is not only having more data, but being able to trust it. Distribution networks usually combine information from GIS systems, smart meters, sensors, advanced supervision devices, AMI/MDM systems, SCADA/ADMS and internal databases.

When these data sources are not aligned, problems arise that directly affect the usefulness of the grid twin: incorrectly identified phases, incomplete topologies, inconsistent measurements, data gaps, outdated assets or discrepancies between what is recorded in the systems and what actually exists in the field.

For this reason, the paper presented by Ariadna at CIRED 2026 focuses on data governance as a necessary condition for grid twins — in this case, low-voltage grid twins — to scale reliably and deliver real operational value.

Innovation applied to distribution networks

The theme of CIRED 2026, which focuses on the successful implementation of innovation in distribution networks, reflects a clear priority for the sector: moving from pilot projects to solutions that are applicable, measurable and sustainable over time.

In this context, Ariadna offers a vision based on real-world network experience, advanced analytics and systems integration. Our aim is to help DSOs turn digitalisation into concrete decisions: where to act, what to prioritise, which investments deliver the highest return and how to improve supply quality using reliable data.

See you in Brussels

Ariadna’s participation in CIRED 2026 will be an opportunity to share insights with the international electricity distribution community and discuss one of the major challenges of digitalisation: how to build low-voltage digital twins based on consistent, governed data that is ready for decision-making.
