The IA4TES project, presented by Iberdrola in collaboration with Indra, Balantia, Baobab, Barbara IoT, eProgram, Flexidao, Rated Power, Singlair, Stemy and AriadnaGrid, has been approved within the call for AI R+D+i Missions, under the Next Generation EU Funds.

The main objective of this project is to develop advanced Artificial Intelligence technologies within the energy sector to drive the energy transition in four different areas: renewable generation, smart grids, efficient consumption and facilitating markets.

Along with Iberdrola as the driving force, and the other companies in the consortium, the project will also have the collaboration of 7 research centres and universities: TECNALIA Research & Innovation, BCAM – Basque Center for Applied Mathematics, University of Granada, Polytechnic University of Madrid, University of Salamanca, Vicomtech and the ‘Instituto de Ingeniería del Conocimiento (IIC)’.

The consortium will receive a grant of €12.5m, which will also create new jobs in the next years.

Science and Innovation Missions Programme

The call for Science and Innovation Missions 2021 is included among the actions foreseen in the ‘Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia’, which outlines the roadmap for the modernisation of the Spanish economy, the recovery of economic growth and job creation, for the solid, inclusive and resilient economic reconstruction after the COVID crises, and to respond to the challenges of the future.

Fully aligned with the Spain 2050 initiative, this programme lays the foundations and proposals for a Long-Term National Strategy, anticipating the main challenges and problems to be faced in Spain in the coming decades. The missions selected in this call address relevant aspects of two of the nine challenges set out in Spain 2050: the first one “Being more productive to grow better” and the fourth one “Becoming a carbon neutral, sustainable and climate change resilient society”.
